Intro

Rooftop producer Alex 'Cores' Hayes's luxury recording studio based in the heart of Shoreditch, East London. It has a comfortable, spacious, air-conditioned and naturally lit control room with direct access to a private outdoor balcony - a rarity for a London studio. The two cosy sofas and three ergonomic chairs give enough room to comfortably seat 8 people (10 or more isn't out of the question) with plenty of pacing space to spare!

The goal was to make the complicated as simple and effortless as possible. The custom-built workstation with plenty of laptop space keeps everything close at hand and is organised in a way that allows for less thinking and more creating. The computer interfacing has been set up to be as user-friendly as possible, with well thought-out routing and everything functioning in a logical way. Additionally, subject to compatibility, users can connect their laptops to the entire system and make use of both monitor screens, all controller keyboards/drum pads and even the Avid control surface within their own familiar DAW environment. This allows the room to be used standalone, as an extension of an existing setup - extremely useful for writing sessions where typically vocals are tracked directly in to the producer's own DAW.

Our equipment list is home to everything you need to make your records stand out. Amongst others there's the much sought-after Sony C800-G microphone and pre-amps/dynamics from Neve, Avalon, Focusrite and UA. High-end converters from Lavry and Apogee handle AD/DA and a highly intuitive 36-fader Avid EuCon control surface gives hands-on control over the Pro Tools HD 12 and Logic Pro 9/X DAWs. Monitoring is provided by the new Focal Trio6 BE/NS10m's with a Yamaha P2200 Amp - all of which are controlled using a mastering-grade Dangerous Music Monitor ST for the most accurate monitoring possible. These are all, of course, complemented by a great selection of FX and instrument plugins.

Rooftop is right in the middle of London's creative heart, Shoreditch. A five-minute walk from Hoxton Overground and with inexpensive all-day parking, the studio is easy to get to from any part of town. The adjacent Cafe and Bistro serves amazing food till late. The surrounding area is a hive of restaurants, bars and clubs, with many great places to stay if you're visiting from out of town. You couldn't be in a better place!

Rooftop is the perfect place to make records in the lap of luxury. Everything else is your job.

Welcome to the top!
