The Summerhouse Writing Studio - Overview

The Summerhouse is an exclusive, high-spec and inspiring writing studio located on the idyllic Osea Island. It has been built in a large detached outhouse behind a gorgeous three-bedroom cottage that provides accommodation for Summerhouse clients.

The entrance to the studio is through a set of French windows opening out onto the cottage garden and surrounding fields. The space consists of a large control room and drum booth, which are separated by a smaller booth for vocals and guitar amps.

One of the key attractions to The Summerhouse is its equipment spec. It features a newly released Audient ASP4816 console and Pro Tools HD Native running Pro Tools 10 on an Intel Mac Pro with a great selection of plug-ins. There is a choice of ADAM S3A Monitors and Yamaha NS-10Ms, and some great Mic Pre's, EQs and Microphones.

The Summerhouse's large booth houses a Pearl Export Series drum kit and Schmidt Fleur upright piano – an indication of the room's size and recording capability. Also on spec are some fantastic guitar amps by Fender, Vox and Roland.

During your session you will stay in The Laurels, a beautiful 3-bedroom cottage that sleeps up to six people. The Laurels has a spacious living room with Sky TV, and a dining room and kitchen with large windows facing the lovely garden. There is a high standard of furniture throughout, with large sofas, antique double beds and a rolltop bath making your stay that extra bit more comfortable.

The other main quality of the studio is of course its inspiring environment. You can leave the city behind and head to this privately owned and widely unknown island retreat off the East Coast of England - the ideal location for writers to completely focus on creating music. For most of the day Osea Island is cutoff from the mainland by tides - cars can only drive on and off twice daily for four hours. Outside these periods it is only accessible by water taxi.
