Mercury Prize winning artist James Blake has returned to the spotlight with his third studio album, The Colour In Anything. Releasing his self-titled debut album in 2011, and the critically acclaimed Overgrown in 2013, this is Blake’s first album in nearly three years.  Evidently the wait was worth it, with the album receiving rave reviews from fans and critics the world over after the album was surprise released on May 7.

In late 2015 James came in to record with Miloco engineer Billy Halliday in Miloco’s Bermondsey tracking room The Pool and one of our west London studios, Sleeper Sounds. They recorded for two days in The Pool, and two at Sleeper Sounds, assisted by Will Purton and Felix Rashman.

“It was mostly vocals that we recorded, and also a few overdubs,” says Billy, speaking about the recording experience. Justin Vernon (Bon Iver), a frequent collaborator of Blake’s and who co-wrote two tracks on The Colour In Anything, and featured on one, attended a session in each of the studios.

“We worked on quite a few tracks during the sessions, ‘Always’, ‘Two Men Down’, ‘Choose Me’ and ‘Noise Above Our Heads’ made it onto the album” says Billy. “But there  were some others we worked on that weren’t used.”
