Green With Envy is the debut studio album from Edmonton based rapper Tion Wayne; The North London cult hero busy climbing to the top of UK rap royalty. The record also marks the first official Dolby Atmos release from Miloco Studios, after the renovations of both the Red Room and The Bridge to accommodate spatial audio systems, and the launch of Miloco’s 360° Spatial Audio services.
Making his breakthrough in 2014 with debut mixtape ‘Wayne’s World,’ the icon from Edmonton effortlessly dissected his experiences of trapping, the street life and run ins with the law. His latest album “Green With Envy” was mixed in part* by Miloco’s urban and afrobeat legend Sam Harper and then brought to the Red Room, where he and Simon mixed the whole album (with the exception of Track 10) in Dolby Atmos.
Green With Envy is a demonstration of Tion’s versatility, coupled with his desire to spread across all the sounds on offer, as he states the album is designed to “make waves and blow this music game.” The result is an album full of “irresistible anthems, ad-libs and witty punchlines” (Apple Music) – that still maintains the gritty drill elements that he’s known for.
It’s the ad-libs that really make this mix in Atmos. The ability of Dolby Atmos to place these around a 360° space means the mixes for this album can be both immersive and exciting, with vocals appearing from all sides. This gives the listener the impression that you are surrounded by the artists on each track, which perfectly compliments Tion’s infamous video style.
*Tracks mixed by Sam Harper:
Loyal (feat. NSG), More Money, WYS (feat. RAYE), 4 Life (feat. Afro B), Realest One, Homecoming, Road to Riches
