Last week we were very excited to see the 2014 Music Producers Guild (MPG) Awards shortlists revealed, and what a showing we have here at Miloco! The studios have been involved in no less than eight nominations across a number of different categories, which signals a brilliant year of music-making we’ve had in 2013.
First up, a hugely deserved shout for UK Producer of the Year for the esteemed pairing of Flood and Alan Moulder, who of course produced Foals’ Mercury-nominated Holy Fire. The album, which was recorded in Assault and Battery 2 and mixed in Assault and Battery 1, has gone from strength-to-strength since its release earlier in the year, and has been the catalyst for many Miloco-related nominations at the forthcoming MPGs. Flood and Alan are also in the running for Mix Engineer of The Year due to their staggeringly good mixes on Holy Fire; engineer Catherine Marks has doubled her chances of success by being nominated for both Recording Engineer of the Year and Breakthrough Engineer of the Year; while the album itself has been nominated for UK Album of the Year and UK Single Song Release of the Year for the track ‘My Number’. A massive congratulations to Foals, Flood, Alan and Catherine and best of luck to you all on the night.
This year has also been a huge one for engineer Matt Wiggins, who we represent on the Gotham Producers roster. Over the past 12 months, Matt’s excellent work with producer Paul Epworth has elevated him to the status as one of the UK’s most in-demand young engineers, and this has been recognised by a nomination for the Breakthrough Engineer of the Year award. Along with many other Epworth productions, including material from Paul McCartney’s New album, Matt was of course on recording duties for Adele’s Oscar-winning single, ‘Skyfall’, which will be hoping for yet more success in the MPG UK Single Song Release of the Year category.
Lastly, on the studio front if we were voting we would go for RAK Studios for the UK Studio of the Year award – an amazing studio with years of heritage that has recorded hit after hit. The other studios are great too but we would love to see RAK win it this year. Just saying!
That’s that. Over to the judges! Best of luck to all the nominees on the night, and we’ll look forward to seeing you all on February 13.
