Furnaces is the staggering seventh studio album from English singer-songwriter Ed Harcourt.
The album was recorded at Miloco’s Assault & Battery 2, a partnership studio with producers Alan Moulder and Flood. Furnaces was produced by Flood, with initial tracking with Ed’s live band taking place over two weeks in July of 2015. Calling in help from a few famous friends, Ed had Stella Mozgawa from Australian band Warpaint contribute to the sessions, playing drums on six of the album’s tracks, as well as renowned percussionist Michael Blair, and The Invisible bassist Tom Herbert who both played on various songs.
Engineer John Catlin gave some insight to the sessions, telling how some of the tracks recorded two drummers, Raife Burchell and Stella Mozgawa, playing simultaneously.
The album was then mixed on A&B 2’s Neve VR60 console over August and September of last year, doing overdubs and even re-recording one of the songs during the mixing process.
Described as “gently apocalyptic pop with billowy choruses” Furnaces is a stellar album produced by Flood, engineered by John Catlin and Drew Smith, and mixed by Flood and John.
