Manchester singer/songwriter/producer, Shura, has released her debut album, Nothing’s Real, today on Polydor. Shura first came to widespread attention in 2014 with her debut single ‘Touch’, which she co-produced alongside Joel Pott, of indie rock band Athlete, which led to her landing a spot on the coveted BBC Sound of 2015 list. Since then Shura, born Alexandra Denton, has released a slew of singles and her White Light EP, which came out last year.
The new 13-track album is in keeping with what has become Shura’s signature sound: bright, synth-led pop with a distinctive 80’s quality, which is ironic given she was born in 1992. Already receiving rave early reviews the album was primarily written and produced by Denton and Pott, with co-writing and production on ‘What’s It Gonna Be?’ and ‘Tongue Tied’ by American producer Greg Kurstin, whose credits feature artists such as Adele, Kylie Minogue, Sia and Lily Allen.
Miloco are very proud to have been involved in the recording of Nothing’s Real, with Shura spending some sessions in Livingston 2 and The Bridge in the second half of 2015 with Miloco engineer Joseph Rodgers and assistants Will Purton, and Eddie Serafica.
Large credit, however, goes to Miloco engineer Daniel Moyler, who was involved in the project from start to finish. Dan engineered most of the tracks on the album, working alongside Shura and her two co-producers at Joel Pott’s personal studio in London. Dan has previously engineered and assisted on projects by the likes of Zayn, FKA Twigs, Rudimental, Mumford & Sons, and many more.
