Echotown Studio is a purpose-built studio, designed and created in 2022. It was inspired by the owners love for the heritage of the classic studio but also with the intention to build one of the first fully accessible studios in the UK.
The control room has been acoustically treated and designed for maximum audio clarity. At the heart of the 38m² control room sits a fully revamped SSL 6000E 32 channel console complete with original computer.
It was restored to working order by the studio's committed tech team and works seamlessly with the Pro-Tools HDX rig and classic tape machines. There are tie lines that link the console to a original EMT Plate Reverb and AKG BX20 Spring Reverb. The in-house engineer, Gareth, looks after all the gear to ensure it performs to its highest standard.
The outboard racks boast some iconic compressors and limiters including an 1176 Blue Stripe and fully kitted Chandler rack. Monitors include ATC 200 PROs, Barefoot MM45s and industry standard Yamaha NS10s.
The machine room houses three epic tape machines including a 4 track 1 inch 1964 Studer J37 (The Beatles), 24 track 2 inch Otari MTR90 MK3, 2 track half inch Otari MTR12 and a 2 track quarter inch Ampex 440. The machine room also doubles as an iso booth for intimate recordings.
Natural daylight floods the purpose-built 45m² live room overlooking the best of the Dorset countryside. Homely touches include French Oak beams and adaptable vibe lighting.
A unique LED graphic equaliser sits within the slatted windows adding to the studio experience. The live room lends itself seamlessly for a variety of uses including live recordings, soloists, bands, voiceovers, and audiobooks.
Accessible loading bay doors lead directly into the space easing the stress of loading in. There's an amp iso booth and a selection of tie lines that run from the live room into the lounge/recreation room should a different acoustic vibe be required.
Downtime is an important part of the recording experience. Echotown Studio boasts a private accessible space complete with toilets, snooker table, Smart TV, and classic arcade game machines.
The enclosed kitchenette offers a fridge, microwave, dishwasher and Nespresso machine. Please kindly note, Echotown Studio is self-catering, however there are places that deliver food and drink; the staff can pre-order this in for you and add the costings to your invoice. On stunning British summer days, the bi-fold doors open out onto an outdoor space with accessible picnic tables and a bench overlooking a large pond.
The studio is owned by singer-songwriter Nick Capaldi, who knew exactly what he wanted as a musician and made it a reality. Nick's vision was to own an affordable, inclusive studio with quality, unrivalled gear in a location that provides both inspiration and tranquillity. This was a space he had never experienced before.
Echotown has received deserved glowing praise and approval from its clients. Its combination of being professional but homely with added quirks has built it a fast reputation for being one of the best world class studios in the UK amongst serious musicians, writers, engineers and producers.
