Salvation Studios is a truly world-class tracking studio in Brighton, England. Based in an old Salvation Army Concert hall, planning was in place for this old building to make way for a block of flats before the Salvation team saw the potential for the old building and bought it on auction. They then set world-renowned acoustician and architect John Flynn (Olympic Studios, Abbey Road) on the space, with carte-blanche to create one of the best recording complexes in the country.
Upon entering Salvation you'll step into the awe-inspiring 77m2 live room with its 13m high vaulted ceiling, adorned in dappled sunlight from the stained glass window designed by local artist Anna Davies. The room has a fully floating floor and has received meticulous acoustic and aesthetic enhancements, producing a beautifully finished, massive-sounding but controlled recording environment that includes two fully retractable, independently floated, glass-fronted isolation booths and an amp booth. In here, you'll find the studio's Yamaha C3 Baby Grand, C&C Custom or 70s Ludwig Cortex kit and an incredible section of guitars and amps to satisfy every possible requirement. The space was carefully designed to allow for huge flexiblilty in acoustics when recording; each of the iso booths are finished in different materials and the glass doors can be opened as much or as little as you wish to blend in the sound of the main room. Listen here for a full demo.
The lighting, including stage lights, was professionally designed to achieve an infinite choice of moods. There is also a gallery surrounding the room that can be used by extra musicians, videographers or for fans to watch an intimate performance. All the windows are fitted with a smart blackout system allowing you to have complete control over the lighting conditions inside the studio.
Salvation's control room meets this incredible standard and more, playing host to a fully restored 1973 Neve 8068 console and ATC SCM200ASL soffit-mounted monitors, as well as a pair of SCM25As for the nearfield. It's a wonderful, atmospheric space that has the size and ambience together with an incredible sound that is demanded of a truly world-class control room. The console offers 32 channels of Neve 31102 preamp, and in addition there's a set of 4 API 312s and a pair of Telefunken V72b's. The studio's extensive outboard offering includes a set of Pultec EQs, dynamics processing from the likes of Tube Tech, Empirical Labs and Crane Song, and FX that includes an EMT 140 Plate Reverb alongside choice options from Lexicon, Bricasti, KLEMT and more.
Outside the main studio there's 3 seperate writing/demo rooms all ready and waiting for you to use as break-out space, or for different setups for writing camps, filming and more. The studio has a dedicated lounge/rec room, a main kitchen and small coffee/drinks station and disabled toilets. All the production rooms can be configured to your request, and there are tielines from each to the main control room, so you can feed parts back into the main production, use them as booths or whatever else the project requires.
