Overview

Originally built as a contemporary acoustic jazz studio, Second Take Sound has become the go-to mid-sized studio in Manhattan.

Second Take Sound is an artist-owned, state-of-the-art studio, comprising a Control Room, Live Room and four iso booths. This allows the studio to work for a wide range of recording projects, and their 1926 Steinway Model B is one of the finest recording pianos in the city.

Sporting hardwood floors, custom-built acoustic treatment and thoughtfully designed lighting, Second Take Sound's control room has a warm, inspiring aesthetic that invites comfort and collaboration as soon as you walk in. The room is centred around an API 1608 32 Channel Console, with the industry-vogue combination of ATC SCM25As and NS-10s for monitoring.

The desk is flanked by a good selection of outboard and the studio's Studer A827, for adding that unmistakeable tape saturation and warmth. At the back of the room sits a large sofa, rounding off this comfortable and capable space.

The studio offers a good-sized live room measuring approximately 400ft2, the hero of which is undoubtably the Steinway Model B Grand Piano (1926), rebuilt with Renner actions by Lindeblad Pianos (2024). The space also contains a Rhodes 73 Suitcase electric piano, 2 drumkits and a plethora of other amps to and gear to choose from. 4 iso booths complete the space and offer a wide spectrum of recording configurations and flexibility.
