The Comet Is Coming nominated for Mercury Prize

London-based trio The Comet Is Coming (pictured, above), who make their own unique brand of jazz, electronica, funk and psychedelic rock are in the running to win the 2016 Mercury Prize, which will be announced this evening. Their debut studio album Channel The Spirits (pictured, below) was completed at Miloco partner studio Optimum Mastering.

Comprised of members of Soccer96 and Sons Of Kemet, The Comet pick up from where the great Sun-Ra left off, adding smouldering electronics to a heady mix of afrobeat and experimental jazz.

While the themes might be intergalactic, the groove is definitely rooted to the dancefloor, as shown on tracks like Star Furnace and Neon Baby.

Channel The Spirits is particularly suited to the album format as a round trip through the cosmos with a clearly defined start and end. Alpha and Omega.

As such it has been recognised by The Mercury Prize committee with a nomination for best album of 2016. Optimum Mastering are very proud to have contributed and we wish everyone involved all the best for tonight’s awards. Congratulations to all projects and artists nominated!
