STUDIO OVERVIEW
The studio is situated on the second floor of a 20th century grain barn, in an outbuilding on-site at the picturesque Cotswolds farm, only 20 second walk from the farmhouse accommodation. Equipped with some of the finest vintage analogue equipment and with hyper-modern monitoring, it has been purpose-built for experimentation. Above all, the studio at Migration is a rebuttal against clinical studio design style and has been designed conscientiously to offer the very best acoustic environments, whilst retaining an incredibly inspiring aura to create in.
"Migration Studios wasn't just a working space for me. Only a few days in, it became a sanctuary." - Joy Crookes
THE CONTROL ROOM
The control room is a Scandinavian pinewood panelled recording haven and is designed with a 70s aesthetic but purposely set-up with modern producers in mind. With a multitude of vintage synthesizers, drum machines and keyboards, there is an immediacy to the creative possibilities. At the centre of the control room is three recording consoles and additional Neve preamps offering distinct flavours to track with.
- 24 Channel Toft ATB24, the same desk used by LCD Soundsystem
- 1989 12 Channel Tascam M312-B with coveted 388 Pre-amps
- 1976 Ex-BBC MX6/3 Glensound Sidecar with 6 channels of Class A Neve Model Preamps.
- 4 x 1081 Neve External Preamps
Acoustically, the room is beautifully balanced as the architectural layout was reconfigured internally by lowering the full-pitch of the ceiling down to 3.5 metres alongside a 15° angled sidewall to reduce standing waves. The custom designed acoustic treatment from Mono Acoustics further creates a beautiful monitoring environment.
THE LIVE ROOM
The Migration live room is a unique space with an epic sound. The combination of a giant gabled 5.5 metre cathedral ceiling with the warmth of three Cotswolds stone walls generates a smooth tonal reverb with a 1.2 second decay time.
"We are yet to find an instrument that doesn't sound utterly stunning in this space. Whether it's a thick style drum sound from our 1971 Olympic Premier kit, a glowing synth-scape through the rare 1968 Sharma Leslie amp, or a rich textured piano tone on the 7.2 ft Danemann Grand Piano; the live room is a space to explore acoustic possibilities and capture them with the beautiful tone of this unique room."
