Website

Neighbourly is a short jouney away from one of the most vibrant cities in the UK.

Youthful, diverse, energetic and bursting with character; Manchester is one of the most exciting places to visit in the UK right now where everybody and anybody is very warmly welcomed.

Manchester is the only UK city to feature in Lonely Planet's Best in Travel 2023 list and the only UK city in National Geographic's influential 'Best of the World' list which annually sets out 25 of the must-see places to visit around the globe.

Known throughout the world as the birthplace of the industrial revolution, Manchester has a proud history in science, politics, music, arts and sport. And today the city combines this heritage with a progressive vision to be a city that delivers surprise and delight in equal measures.

Manchester city centre is jam-packed with unique and eclectic restaurants, bars, shops, museums, galleries, hotels and places to stay whilst the surrounding Greater Manchester boroughs offer a patch-work of visitor experiences including quaint market towns, traditional pubs and beautiful green spaces and waterways to be explored on foot or bike. The city region is easily navigated, with great transport links both in and around Greater Manchester.

An 11 mile (16km), traffic-free greenway from Macclesfield to Marple on the Peak Park fringe with car parking, toilets and information points, with fine views over the Cheshire Plain to the west.
The Middlewood Way follows the line of the former Macclesfield, Bollington and Marple Railway through picturesque Cheshire countryside and between historic mill towns. For much of its length, the Middlewood Way runs close to the Macclesfield Canal, and there are many options for easy circular walks. For the more adventurous, the extensive public footpath network reaches into the Peak District Foothills to the east and the Cheshire Plain to the west.

White Nancy

Website

White Nancy is a very popular walking destination. Indeed, walking is the only way of getting there! Your walk can start from a number of different places, but many start from within Bollington or Kerridge. Everyone is very welcome BUT please park considerately! Bollington is very short of parking space and street parking is often not possible particularly at weekends. We don't take kindly to those who park just anyware. If you are visiting from outside the area be prepared to find a space some distance from the foot of the hill. However, there are two free and untimed public carparks (as well as others further away) – Pool Bank is in the very centre of the old town beside Palmerston Street, opposite High Street. In Kerridge there is a small carpark off Jackson Lane, almost opposite the entrance to Hollin Hall Hotel. Walking to White Nancy from these carparks and other start points is described on a separate page.

Jodrell Bank

Jodrell Bank Bomish Lane, Lower Withington Cheshire SK11 9DL 01477 571766 Website

Jodrell Bank Observatory hosts a number of radio telescopes as part of the Jodrell Bank Centre for Astrophysics at the University of Manchester. The observatory was established in 1945 by Bernard Lovell, a radio astronomer at the university, to investigate cosmic rays after his work on radar in the Second World War. It has since played an important role in the research of meteoroids, quasars, pulsars, masers and gravitational lenses, and was heavily involved with the tracking of space probes at the start of the Space Age.

The main telescope at the observatory is the Lovell Telescope. Its diameter of 250 ft (76 m) makes it the third largest steerable radio telescope in the world. There are three other active telescopes at the observatory; the Mark II, and 42 ft (13 m) and 7 m diameter radio telescopes. Jodrell Bank Observatory is the base of the Multi-Element Radio Linked Interferometer Network (MERLIN), a National Facility run by the University of Manchester on behalf of the Science and Technology Facilities Council.

The market started in 2010 and each month sees the handsome cobbled Marketplace, Old Butter Market, St Michael's churchyard and surrounding streets throng with visitors and over 160 stalls of unique crafts, exceptionally lovingly produced food & drink & vintage finds. Bollington Brewery

The Bollington Brewing Co. Adlington Rd, Bollington. Cheshire. SK10 5JT 01625 575 380 Website

Brewing real ales with passion in the Happy Valley!

Bollington has always been famous for its pubs, so it was amazing that it had been without a brewery for 70 years. That all changed in 2008 when Bollington Brewing Co. brewed their first beer which became "Bollington Best", still the most popular selling beer in the area. From small beginnings it's tripled in size and brews for three of their own pubs, amongst others. They also sell a selection of bottles and boxes and offer tours of the brewery.
