S.A.M. Studio is based in Lari, a 12th century village near Pisa in Tuscany, one of the most breathtakingly beautiful parts of Italy. Based in a traditional building next to Lari castle, this state-of-the-art residential recording studio offers luxury accommodation with stunning views of the Tuscan countryside, including the Tyrrhenian Sea, the Apuan Alps, and on a clear day Volterra and the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
Sitting at the heart of the control room, which was designed by French acoustic designer Christian Malcurt, is a 48-channel LN1 Raindirk Symphony console. S.A.M. has racks of vintage valve gear and two fully operational vintage MCI JH 24 Tape Machines from the 80's, which are synchronised with the DAW to get the best of both worlds. Not forgetting the modern equipment, clients have the choice of a Pro Tools HDX rig as well as a 2" 16-track Soundcraft machine.
The main live room, Recording Room A measures 8.6 m x 6 m x 4.5 m, and was also designed by Malcurt alongside Studio Sound Service. At the center of the room is a Steinway grand piano, and the space has a great variety of top-level acoustics. There is also a second, smaller recording room giving producers and engineers further options when tracking. Besides the beautifully-crafted acoustics at S.A.M., there are countless microphones and backline instruments to use as well.
In a recent studio upgrade S.A.M. built a studio lounge where clients can rest, eat and relax between sessions, or use to write and practice. The lounge is connected to the mixing room and can also be used a third recording room, should you like to work remotely.
During time out from the session, guests will have the sole use of a stylish flat just 70 meters away from the studio. The village of Lari is a typical Tuscan affair - a lovely wine bar, great cuisine, medieval architecture and friendly locals. Settle in and enjoy your time in this magnificent and inspiring part of Italy...
