Studio A is an immense writing and production studio based on the first floor of a building off Ladbroke Grove, and its expansive size is put to full use by housing an arsenal of brilliant gear provided by Guy Chambers.
On entering the studio you are greeted by a producer/songwriter's dream - a space station-esque setup of great recording equipment and instruments. Taking up position in the centre of the room, while a load of high-end outboard and synths are stacked to the left. Next to the synths are some of Guy's many guitars; Gibsons, Epiphones, Fenders, Rickenbackers to name a few. A kitchenette and toilet occupy the back left corner of the space.
The right hand side of the room as seen from behind the console is gloriously lit by floor-to-ceiling windows which fill the entire length of the room. The Steinway grand piano lives in the far right corner from the island next to a small rec area with sofa and coffee table. Spaced out round the central island are also countless great vintage keyboards and percussion instruments, and in the far left hand corner a drum kit is permanently set up in a screened off area. There is a classic Gretsch kit as well as a 1966 Ludwig, complemented by a fantastic choice of snare drums. To the right of the desk is a booth that is perfect for recording vocals or any of the amps on spec, including models by Ampeg, Fender, Leslie, Marshall, Vox and more. There is of course an amazing selection of microphones.
The sheer amount of instruments alone is enough to provide maximum inspiration for a writing session, however there are some great additional touches too, such as the shelves filled with esoteric toys and noise making devices, books and tape reels, a collection of framed pictures and photos, and of course the abundant natural light, all of which contributes to the creative atmosphere at Sleeper Sounds.
