Kssour Agafay is a 16th century riad, and one of the oldest based in the heart of the Marrakech Medina, a UNESCO-listed World Heritage site. This is a unique and special riad; the only one in the Medina with a courtyard on the first floor.
Built five hundred years ago, Kssour Agafay was once the home of the famous "Chorfa el Meslohian", a noble Moroccan family, as a place to live and entertain stately guests. Throughout the 20th Century the riad fell into disrepair, but was purchased in 1997 by its present owners who over a period of three years lovingly restored the entire building to its former glories, and relaunched Agafay as a high-end Moroccan hotel with the added bonus of a fantastic recording studio...
Kssour Agafay still has many of the original features which graced the premises in the 16th Century: beautiful old arches, painted wooden ceilings, had-carved wall decorations, intricately tiled walls, old pillars and beams and vast four-meter high doorways.
The mesmerising, ancient medina is just a few minutes walk from Jamaa el Fna, Marrakech's world famous square which thrives day and night with story tellers, acrobats, performers and street vendors in abundance. Other historic monuments incliude the Koutoubia mosque, the Medrasa ben yousef Quaranic school and the Bahia Palace, which are all within walking distance of Kssour Agafay. Visit them to absorb the rich history and culture of Marrakech - a key component to your Agafay Studio experience.
