The Agafay Studio

We are delighted to partner with Abel Damoussi to introduce his spectactular residential writing retreat, The Agafay Studio, in the heart of Marrakech, Morocco. 

Abel has created The Agafay Studio in a dream location for songwriters and musicians seeking a totally different environment. It is based close to Jamaa el Fna Square in the Marrakech Medina - the old and historic part of this famous Moroccan city. There is no better place than the Medina to soak up the ultimate Moroccan experience. The Square buzzes day and night with musicians, snake charmers, food stalls, acrobats and more, while the rest of the Medina is charcaterised by its labyrinth of ancient bazaars and alleyways.

Agafay is based in a 15th Century riad (traditional Moroccan house) that has been beautifully restored to a modern standard. There is a courtyard with fountain; walls and corridors are decorated with mosaics; and the rooms are kitted out with lanterns and candles, rugs, curtains and other authentic furnishings made in the region.

The studio itself has been acoustically approved by leading acoustician Nick Whitaker, and there is a good setup including an SSL Nucelus Controller, Avid Pro Tools 10, Neumann Microphones, Adamson speakers and more. Bring your instruments and your ideas and make this space your own.

The client accommodation is based in a luxury home with awe-inspiring views over the Marrakech Medina. You will have sole use of two beautiful salons and six bedrooms, and you'll be treated to delicious Moroccan cuisine during your stay.
