There are now so many bars, restaurants and cafes that - if you have the time, dedication and appetite - you can practically eat in a different place every day of the year. Here is a selection of the best bars and restaurants in the area, along with a selection of fun activities.

Rough Trade East

Brick Lane Market

Brick Lane London E1. Open Sunday Dawn to 12:00 pm

Brick Lane is a great place to head even if you haven't got anything planned or on your shopping list. Located to the north of the railway bridge, it spills out onto Cygnet Street, Sclater Street and Bacon Street. There's loads to do from bar hoping, gigs, good street food, infamous curry houses and the best vintage clothes stores in London.

A great venue in Hackney Wick, the event calander usually boasts a strong variety of some of the best up and coming bands in UK, along with some of the overseas bands coming through London. Great sound system and a good restaurant and bar downstairs.

Spitalfields Market

Commercial Street, London E1

Escape from the clones' high street and discover some hidden gems from the world of fashion, the arts and interiors. Old Spitalfields market is open 7 days a week, and a few of the highlights include a Deli market every Wednesday and a book & record fair every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month. Thursday boasts an antiques market while Friday sees the arrival of a shed load of fashion and arts paraphernalia.
