Pinkmoon Studios

Pink Moon Studios is a residential recording studio and creative retreat in the South of France, beautifully located in the Terre d'Hérault UNESCO Geopark. Surrounded by mountains, vineyards and open skies, the studio offers artists a secluded space to write, record and reconnect with the work.

Built on the edge of a mountain with views towards the Pyrenees, the Mediterranean and the ruins of a 13th-century Cathar castle, Pink Moon is designed for sessions that benefit from time, focus and a change of pace. Wild horses occasionally pass through the landscape and eagles can be seen overhead; inside, the studio combines a spacious stone live room with an analogue-centred control room and flexible accommodation for residential recording projects.

Pink Moon was founded by songwriter, musician, producer and engineer Johannes Saal, who previously worked from Funkhaus in Berlin. After relocating to the South of France in 2016, Johannes transformed a ruined building into the studio by hand, creating a space shaped around live performance, natural acoustics and the experience of recording together.
Today, his wife Daniela Saal, alongside producer-engineer Owen Pratt and singer-songwriter Paul Lappin, continues to run Pink Moon as Johannes intended: an inspiring, welcoming place for musicians, songwriters and producers to escape the everyday and concentrate on making something meaningful. Daniela is the first point of contact for arranging stays, while Owen and Paul can help tailor the studio setup and recording approach to each project. Pink Moon's current team continues the creative vision established by Johannes, while bringing extensive experience in artist recording, production and studio craft.

At the heart of the studio is a rare RFT MP4084 desk, originally built for Deutsche Rundfunk and formerly installed at Funkhaus Berlin. Alongside a six-metre-high stone live room, a considered collection of analogue outboard and accommodation on site, Pink Moon is particularly suited to bands, ensembles and artists who want to capture the energy of playing together.

Accessible from Béziers, Carcassonne, Montpellier and Toulouse airports, Pink Moon is within easy reach from the UK and across southern Europe - yet feels far removed from the usual pace of city recording.
