Miloco’s 2015 Year In Review

2015 was a great year in the Miloco and partner studios here in London and around the world. We enjoyed working with every artist and on every project that has come through our doors, but we couldn’t let the year disappear completely without highlighting some of the extra special moments as voted by our staff in the Miloco 2015 Year In Review.

Foals record What Went Down at La Fabrique in Paris

Early in the year the Oxfordshire five-piece Foals travelled down to the south of France to record their fourth album, What Went Down, at the amazing residential recording studio, La Fabrique. Teaming up with producer James Ford and engineer Jimmy Robinson, the album was then mixed by Alan Moulder at Assault & Battery 1. Taking on some darker themes, but also revealing the band’s most beautiful pop songs, the album was a great success and received well by fans and critics alike.

Adele works on 25 at The Church

You can’t talk about the year in music without mentioning Adele and her chart-topping album 25. Recorded at various studios around the UK, Britain’s Queen Of Pop returned to The Church in north London where she has recorded much of her earlier work. She worked once again with serial collaborator and The Church’s driving force, Paul Epworth, on two of the album’s eleven tracks. The beautiful studio was also showcased in the video for her second single, ‘When We Were Young’.

Stephen Street works on Blur comeback

In February Miloco partner Stephen Street revealed he was involved in the making of Blur‘s comeback album – their first in 16 years – at a press conference hosted by BBC Radio 1’s Zane Lowe. In late 2014 Stephen was drafted by the band to work on The Magic Whip, which was worked on in The Bunker and released in late April 2015.

Paul Epworth wins Producer Of The Year at the MPG Awards

Another Miloco partner, Paul Epworth, won UK Producer Of The Year at the Music Producers Guild (MPG) Awards in February, his third time winning the award. As the award is sponsored by The Brits that also made Paul the first official Brit Award recipient of the year. Paul is the man behind The Church Studios, where he was worked with the likes of Coldplay, U2, Adele, Paul McCartney, FKA Twigs, Glass Animals and more.

Golfrapp wins Album Of The Year

Another big winner of February’s MPG Awards was Goldfrapp, who took home the coveted UK Album Of The Year award for Tales Of Us. The stellar album was mixed by engineer and producer Craig Silvey at Toast, a partnership studio between Craig and Miloco.

Florence + The Machine record How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful at The Pool

Florence + The Machine returned to Miloco’s  The Pool to record their third LP, How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful. The album was recorded and produced by Markus Dravs in The Pool and mostly mixed by Craig Silvey at Toast. It was released in mid 2015 to rave reviews, before the band took to the road to tour the album at some of the biggest music festivals around the world. It has since appeared in almost every notable ‘Best Albums of 2015’ list.

Wolf Alice record My Love Is Cool at Livingston 1 with Mike Crossey

British four-piece Wolf Alice recorded their debut album My Love Is Cool in Livingston 1 with Gotham producer Mike Crossey in London’s Livingston Studio 1. The album was released mid 2015 and quickly climbed the charts, earning the band nominations for the 2015 Mercury Prize, 2016 NME Awards and 2016 GRAMMYs.

Everything Everything record Get To Heaven at Angelic Studios

Another amazing album to be recorded in a Miloco studio this year was Everything Everything‘s Get To Heaven. Once again teaming up with engineer and friend, Tom Fuller, alongside producer Stuart Price the album was largely recorded at Angelic Studios where the band had also recorded their 2013 sophomore album Arc.

Bring Me The Horizon record That’s The Spirit at Black Rock

The stunning Black Rock Studios in Santorini played home to Bring Me The Horizon for two months while they recorded their fifth studio album That’s The Spirit. Miloco-managed engineer Al Groves holed up with the band to record the project in the luxurious studio – check out band member Jordan Fish talk about the band’s experience recording here.

Matt Wiggins & Riley McIntyre win at the Pro Sound Awards

Two Miloco engineers, Matt Wiggins and Riley Mcintyre fared well at the Pro Sound Awards in September, both taking home awards for their work in the field. Matt, who has previously worked with the likes of Paul McCartney, Coldplay, Adele and Foster The People, won Studio Engineer of The Year, while Riley took home the Rising Star Award following his excellent work with Florence + The Machine, Lianne La Havas and Nadine Shah.

Bastille record ‘Hangin’ at The Pool with Mark Crew and Jon Sagis

In September Bastille released a new song ‘Hangin” which featured on the FIFA ’16 game soundtrack, and is slated to be on their upcoming LP. Songwriter, producer and mixer Mark Crew recorded the song at The Pool earlier in 2015 with engineer Jonathan Sagis, who is managed by Miloco.

Launch of The Red Room London

In December 2015, after weeks of preparation and keeping things hush hush, Miloco launched the brand new mix room The Red Room London. In collaboration with Swiss mix engineer Philippe Weiss the room was completely refurbished in Miloco’s Bermondsey HQ, getting a new 56 Channel SSL G+ Console, new monitors and outboard and a whole lot more. It’s now fully up and running and is sounding incredible!
