OneRepublic Interview: New album ‘Native’, partly recorded at Black Rock Studios, Santorini Greece

Posted on December 13, 2012 by ether

one republic in black rock studios

Colorado’s greatest, OneRepublic, recorded their third album in various studios in Denver, London, Paris and Greece, one of which was the sumptuous Black Rock on Santorini, the ‘Island of the Gods’. Lead guitarist Zach Filkins gave this interview to Crave Online, where he discusses the new record, the recording sessions, Black Rock studios and more…

“… we’ve been in studios where you almost write an entire song right there because… something is (just) there. We worked in Santorini, which is this really beautiful island off the coast of Greece. We went there for an actual band vacation that Twiddy offered us, something we hadn’t done in a long time. But there’s this studio in Santorini that’s super beautiful, and it was a really laid back experience to have a studio available to us in such an amazing setting.

Most of all, we’re chasing inspiration. And you can’t always find the inspiration you need from one studio or one location.”

Foals ‘Inhaler’ the first single from forthcoming album ‘ Holy Fire’ produced by Flood and Moulder

Posted on November 14, 2012 by ether

The eagerly anticipated third album from Foals is due to be released on the 11th February 2013. The guys set up fort for three months at our Assault and Battery Studios to record and mix the album. ‘Holy Fire’ is produced by Flood and Moulder, engineered by Catherine Marks and mixed by Moulder in Assault and Battery 1.

‘Inhaler’ is the first single from the album and you can listen and watch here:

This single is just a hint of what to expect, taking on a rockier, heavier approach to there previous work which had that ‘Foals’ math-indie, post punk signature penned all over it. This record is the unveiling of a new Foals and see’s the band take their first step away from being ‘that indie band from Oxford’. Their new work is current, on point and big, we’re looking forward to seeing this live!

Newton Faulkner – ‘Write It On Your Skin’

Posted on October 31, 2012 by ether

The recent album ‘Write It on Your Skin’ by Newton Faulkner was recorded in majority at our studio The Lightship. With Ben Phillips, the studio’s owner,  engineering throughout the time Newton spent there.

Newton told the NME  “I have had such a good time making this record, whether it’s been in my studio in the middle of night when I can’t sleep or in Sam Farrar’s garage in LA or on Lightship95, which is a boat and I think might be my favourite studio in the world.”

The album was released back in July, but with the cold winter nights setting in, its the perfect accompaniment for a relaxed evening in by the fire.

James Bond Theme ‘Skyfall’

Posted on October 24, 2012 by ether

The new Bond theme ‘Skyfall’, produced and co-written by long time producer Paul Epworth and performed by Grammy award winner Adele was engineered by our very own Matt Wiggins. The track which went to number one in the iTunes chart within 10 hours of being released oozes ‘Bond’, with big strings, big vocals and drama. The film which premiered last night is said to be the best bond film yet and we reckon the theme tune is worthy of that review as well.

‘Jake Bugg’ the Debut Self Titled Album from Jake Bugg, Produced and Mixed by Mike Crossey at Motor Museum

Posted on October 17, 2012 by ether

The hotly tipped Jake Bugg debut album has shot into number 1 in the album midweeks. Produced and mixed by Mike Crossey (Gotham Producers) at Motor Museum, Liverpool. Mike’s previous work includes the Artic Monkeys, Tribes, Foals and more recently Ben Howard. The album was also mastered at our mastering studio 24-96 by Robin Schmidt, previously mastering for Emeli Sandé, Mumford and Sons and The Black Keys to name but a few.

18-year-old Jake was born and raised in Clifton, and though too young to remember in full the attack of Brit pop in the 90’s is clearly heavily influenced by the likes of Oasis, the La’s and hints of lyrical genius not dissimilar to The Libertines. Taking the album away from the stereotype of larger drinking that, Brit pop so often has, Jake works through his tracks with an element of 60’s class, mirroring the likes of Dylan and Donovan. Its hard to believe listening through all the trials and tribulations in the album that this wasn’t written by a man in his eighties, let alone a boy who has barely left school.

Album out now!
