Miloco Studios have begun managing engineer Jon Olliffe.
Jon started his career following in the footsteps of Spike Stent at the residential studios Jacobs. Here he learnt the SSL E Series and Neve VR desks and worked with many experienced producers and engineers including Stephen Street, Cenzo Townshend, Gil Norton, Adrian Bushby, Chris Sheldon and Andy Jackson.
Jon went freelance, working for Miloco; Mark Angelo; Island Records; Livingston Studios and Pierce Rooms. Jon continued to work with and learn from some of the most respected professionals including Haydn Bendall, Steve Fitzmaurice and Tom Elmhirst before joining an audio engineering college where he combined lecturing with freelance engineering, mixing and production.
A certified expert in Pro Tools, Jon nevertheless has a strong affinity with hardware (as his ever-expanding kit list indicates) and has developed a hybrid system of mixing which combines the analogue and digital worlds with instant recall to ensure the creative and technical needs of clients are met.

If you are a regular reader of our blog you will have probably noticed Livingston Studio 1 recently built on its collection of vintage and cool equipment.
Out of our love for the immediacy and character that guitar pedals provide, we have built three new pedalboards.
We have also added Barefoot Sound MicroMain27 monitors, two Cartec EQP-1A equalisers, a Cartec THC compressor, a Chandler TG1 Limiter, a Chandler TG2 Pre Amp/DI, an AMS Neve 1073DPX Dual Preamp & EQ and more.

Our colleagues Miloco Gear have built three new pedal boards that feature at Livingston Studio 1.
Each board has its own specific purpose (with some unusual twists), Board 1 being our gain/overdrive/fuzz board, Board 2 being modulation effects and the final board concentrating on delays/reverbs.
Today Miloco Gear looked at our gain/overdrive/fuzz board and why they chose the pedals.

Check out the first of these studio diaries now, featuring how they worked with Grammy award-winning producer Jason Perry.
“When we first started writing, we set ourselves stupid limits, but I think we needed that process because the four of us hadn’t written together before and we needed to rediscover how we could work as a team,” frontman Rob Damiani told Kerrang! magazine.
The album was mixed by Adam Noble and mastered by Robin Schmidt at 24-96 Mastering.
‘Automatic’ will be dropping on 7 August via Epic Records.

After two months in the studio on the Greek island of Santorini, the 12-track album is set to be released on 11 September.
“We’re just soaking it up – we’ve been hiring quad bikes to go round on, hanging out at a few local bars, going down to the beach,” says Jordan Fish, the British metal band’s newest member and singer Oli Sykes’ co-writer, who acted as unofficial producer throughout the recording. Alistair Groves was engineer.

‘Tony Allen’s Afro Drops’ is the first sample library bringing Tony into play, the 23 Afrobeat drum tracks exclusively available from Drumdrops as multi-tracks, stems and loops that are used by composers, arrangers, performers and producers to create music.
Recorded and mixed by engineer Steve Sedgwick at west London facility Studio13, ‘Tony Allen’s Afro Drops’ incorporates influences from Tony’s drumming in Fela Kuti’s band Africa 70.
“He hits the drums really quietly, that’s something you notice when you first hear him playing and he just gets a really nice tone out of the drums,” explains Steve. “Whereas a lot of people might think you have to hit the drums really hard to get a bigger sound, it’s kind of the opposite often that the harder you hit them they just kind of become thinner. So he plays really softly but he just really makes the drums sing.”

Walking into the control room, you are immediately struck by the amount of light from the 15ft window and skylights, and views of trees outside.
The control room is based around a 24-fader Avid D-Command. A Bricasti reverb, Chandler EQs, 1176s and a Ridge Farm Boiler are just some of the outboard, and stacks of plugins complete the picture.
A good cross-section of pedals, from vintage MXR to Axe-Fx Ultra, are available, plus some rare percussion that owner and musician/composer David Bradnum brought back from Africa.
