Good luck MPG Awards nominees

Posted on February 11, 2015 by Georgie Koch

Miloco partners Paul Epworth and Flood are two hugely influential producers that have made it onto the shortlist for the 2015 Music Producers Guild Awards.

Flood and Paul are nominated for UK Producer Of The Year. The winner of the Music Producers Guild’s UK Producer of the Year Award also receives a BRIT Award for Best Producer, and both awards will be presented at the Awards ceremony tomorrow.

Neil Comber – whose studio is at the Miloco HQ – is nominated for Recording Engineer Of The Year.

Good luck to the three Studio Of The Year finalists Abbey Road, AIR Studios and RAK Studios.

Last year our tip was RAK, which won the award. Although we would love to see RAK – a top studio – win again, our tip is Abbey Road this year.

Good luck to all nominees! We are certain the 2015 MPG Awards will be another great night. Full details are here.

Clear Lake boards Miloco

Posted on February 9, 2015 by Georgie Koch

Partly designed by renowned acoustician George Augsperger, Clear Lake Recording Studios has come on board Miloco’s roster of studios in Los Angeles. Clear Lake is hot on the heels of Eldorado Recording Studios, and we’re delighted to now have two recording studios available in sunny LA.

George designed Studio A to supply an exceptionally well-tuned control room, a sizeable live room and three isolation booths. Along with an acoustically beautiful space, Clear Lake maintains an impressive collection of vintage equipment and the latest in digital technology.

Spacious and comfortable, the control room maintains incredibly accurate acoustics and a Trident 80-BB console as the centrepiece.

The live room was designed to make drums and other acoustic instruments sound huge, but also allow for the flexibility in ambience that many other instruments require. Quality instruments range from a Yamaha C7 grand piano to a Hammond B-3 Organ and amp.

Considered one of the world’s finest recording facilities, Ocean Way Nashville is now on Miloco’s roster of studios in the Tennessee capital. The recording studio is Miloco’s second facility in Nashville, following the addition of Welcome To 1979 to our growing Music City portfolio.

Ocean Way Nashville’s three studios are housed in a 100-year-old Gothic revival greystone church, which provides exceptional spaces tuned specifically for music recording. You will love the vibe and sound of tracking in Studio A. There is no other recording studio in Nashville that has a big room sound like this.

The Studio A control room features a custom 80-input and 64-monitor all discrete Neve 8078, the largest of its type in the world, plus Studio B features a custom Neve VRP 96-input console with GML discrete buss amps. Studio C is is optimised for small space recording and in the box mixing in stereo as well as 5.1.

Q&A: Deafkid

Posted on January 27, 2015 by Georgie Koch

In December, Sentric Music offered all active Sentric artists the chance to win a two-day recording session with us as part of Sentric’s Fund Your Future campaign. The response was fantastic, with Sentric artists across all genres and levels showing interest.

Deafkid were chosen as the winners of the first two days’ studio time, so Sentric gave the guys a shout to ask them about their plans for the sessions and what they hope to achieve with their new recordings.

(The good news is that Sentric had so much interest in the first two days that it has secured another two for Sentric artists to win. More on that below).

Congratulations on winning the session! What made you apply?

We always keep an eye on Sentric’s opportunities and as we’re currently working towards what will be our debut LP, we thought two days in a really good studio could always be beneficial. We love going to studios to either record or learn. We’re pretty geeky. The timing couldn’t be more perfect!

What are you planning on recording while in the studio?

We self-produce and record most of our tracks but have used studios in the past for tracking drums, final vocals and mixing. Just working out how best to use the time we won!

Where have you recorded in the past?

We have a small studio of our own which is where we do most of our work. Other than that we have recorded with Ash Gardner at House of Strange in London and with Kristofer Harris somewhere down in Kent for our last EP.

What are your ambitions for what you record in the session?

We always try to use our time wisely when in the studio. We’re still working out how it’ll be best used, but we know that our next record has to be our best effort yet and we want it to sound as good as possible!

What are Deafkid’s plans for 2015?

We want to get this album finished and released. Other than with the AA-side single Vigilante/Horns (where we worked with Tape Club Records) we are an independent act so it takes way more personal effort, expense and planning to do anything. Then we want to go touring and never ever stop.

How have Sentric and publishing royalties helped your musical career so far?

It helps a great deal. We mentioned being an independent act, and as such time just disappears into logistics so having a professional company on your side that constantly provides opportunities and sorts your royalties is a lifesaver.
