Blue Pro Mastering is one of two London-based mastering rooms we have teamed up with to launch Miloco Mastering. Blue Pro was founded by Alexander Balfour in 2001 and offers audio mastering in addition to both CD & DVD Duplication & Replication services. It is based in Miloco’s Hornsey premises in North London.
Blue Pro deliver the highest possible standards in Audio CD mastering using only the best audio path and equipment available, operated by experienced resident engineers John Webber and Jerome Schmitt. The facility is fundamentally built around the MTC-2 Mastering Console from Maselec. Built by legendary producer Leif Mases (Black Sabbath, Jeff Beck, Europe, Led Zeppelin and Abba) the MTC-2 is undoubtedly the perfect centre-piece to a world class mastering facility. However the Blue Pro spec also includes many other options from Maselec such as the classic MEA-2 Equaliser, MLA-2 Compressor and a more recent addition, the MPL-2 De-Esser and Brickwall Limiter. The is also a good choice of Prism converters, compressers and EQs.
Blue Pro offer both attended sessions at the studio (billed hourly) or online mastering (billed per track). Their services come at very affordable rates that deliver true value for both independent musicians and major labels alike.

You’ll be thrilled to hear that we have recently upgraded the Macs in The Engine Room and Square to Apple Mac Pro 8 Core (2 x 2.4Ghz Quad-Core Intel Xeon). We have also enhanced the Square’s plug-in selection with Eventides Anthology 2 pack, and The Engine Room has now acquired the Soundtoys TDM FX bundle (version 4).

Our first big launch of the Autumn is a brand new Mastering service.
The launch of Miloco Mastering is based around two different mastering rooms: Unity Mastering in Maida Vale, West London; and Blue Pro Audio in Hornsey, North London. Unity and Blue Pro are two very different mastering rooms offering different services, so you can pick and choose the best to suit you.
Unity Mastering is home to the old school don of mastering, Chris Parmenidis. Chris has built a very finely-tuned and highly-spec’d mastering room. Unity’s services include CD or vinyl and attended or unattended sessions. Whichever option you choose, you are always assured of exceptional results.
We have also teamed up with Blue Pro Audio, which is run by mastering engineers John Webber and Jerome Schmitt. Blue Pro not only offer attended and unattended mastering, but through them we can also organise DVD and CD manufacturing.

Over at Lightship95, our studio on a boat, run with producer engineer Ben Phillips, we have been upgrading the spec across the board. First up the Protools Rig has had a litte update with the addition of a Digidesign 96 I/O adding another 8 inputs and outputs.
On the outboard front Ben has purchased 4 new mic pre’s to complement those already built into the Calrec console. The new mic pre’s are low noise D.A.V. Electronics Broadhurst Garden 501’s which fit snuggly into the API series racks and come with built in DI’s. More information on these mic pre’s can be found at the D.A.V. Electronics website.
Finally Ben has been busy updating the already impressive backline selection with the purchase of Orange 2 x 12 and 4 x 10 guitar cabs and a 1 x 15 bass cab. to check out the latest equipment specification click here.

It’s the time of the year for the Audio Pro Awards 2010 nominees to be announced. Last year we won the Best Newcomer studio with the incredible Black Rock Studios in Santorini. This year Miloco has two studios nominated for the Best New Studio award and they are Angelic Studios and The Pool. Angelic is an obvious choice for best newcomer as it is brand new and it is amazing ! We are a little confused as to why the Pool is on there as it is not quite a newcomer but definitely is awesome !
Angelic (pictured above), is run in partnership with Toby Smith and has quickly established itself as one of the leading residentials in the UK. It is an incredible studio with a Sam Toyashima control room and stunning barn conversion live space. The spec is centered around a 72 channel SSL console that used to reside at Townhouse studios, and there is an amazing selection of outboard, mics and backline at your disposal. The Pool is an amazing versatile tracking space that we run in partnership with producer Ben Hillier and engineer Mark Rankin. Last year we redesigned the space adding a Control Room and drum booth for versatility. The control room is wired so that the equipment can be located in the Control Room or the Live space which ever way the producer prefers. Over the last 4 years the Pool has proved to be one of the leading tracking rooms in London recording albums from the likes of Florence & The Machine, Kate Nash, Bloc Party, Graham Coxon and many more. This August Iron Maiden’s Steve Harris stopped by at Black Rock in Santorini with producer Kevin Shirley to do some mixing and admire the beautiful island of Santorini. During their free time they checked out the Island and loved the place so much, they promised to be back soon.
Earlier in the summer Joe Bonamassa spent five weeks recording his new CD at Black Rock . Last year Joe recorded his most recent release entitled ‘Black Rock’ in Santorini, and it is still at the top of the Billboard charts.

This week it is the Yard’s turn to receive some new equipment with the addition of a brand new GML 8200 Stereo EQ. Not a bad little purchase for a Protools room. The Yard, based in Highbury, London is run in partnership with producer / engineer James Lewis. In his words –
“The new GML 8200 E.Q. complements the thickness of the Chandler Mixer beautifully enabling you to really open up the top end of the mix and if needed add some deep lows or extra punch.”
The Yard is an amazingly versatile studio – centered around a powerful Protools HD3 rig and a Chandler line mixer this is our leading ‘Mixing In The Box Room’. However, we don’t just rely on the large plug-in library we also have a great selection of outboard to help enhance your mix – from manufacturers such as Chandler, SSL, AMS, Urei and Thermionic Culture.
On top of this we have also made some additions to our plugins. Recently we have updated the Waves package from Platinum to Mercury and bought the Waves SSL bundle. Sound Toys has also been updated to version 4 adding two new plugins – Decapitator and Pan Man. Finally we have also added the Culture Phoenix plugin. Electric River are a London-based brassy punk outfit. They’ve spent the latter part of the summer tracking in Miloco’s Garden and mixing in The Engine Room with engineer Joe Fields. Their new material has taken a more ‘dancey’ route to previous records, but is said to remain rooted in punk. We gave them a Miloco artists Q&A to tell us all a little more about themselves and their time at the studios.
