Christmas has come early at Miloco as we have just received a pair of Augspurger Duo-8 Mini-Main monitors for demoing, which have been temporarily set up in The Red Room London.
As the sole official Augspurger distributor in Europe, we have the ONLY pair in the whole of the UK available for you to take for a test run. The only other known pair in the country are housed in the studio of Coldplay producer, Rik Simpson.
Completely customisable, the Augspurger Duo-8’s have over 200 different amp and configuration options and either a two-way main monitor system or a three-way with a sub. Being software driven it’s able to be completely tuned to your environment and has the clearest sound that truly goes down to 20Hz.
Sound isn’t the only customisable aspect, with numerous design options to choose from. There are 200 base colours and finishes, including the beautiful maple wood finish seen on this pair. As each pair of monitors are customised and made to spec they can be installed in your studio, home or vehicle, with many additional automotive options.
A favourite brand of heavyweight hip-hop producers and artists such as Timbaland, Jay-Z and Snoop Dogg because of its impressive bass, the Augspurgers’ versatility means they also work well for pop, EDM, rock and jazz.
To come in to The Red Room London for a listening session, or to enquire about arranging a demo in your own studio, contact Miloco Gear on +44 (0) 207 232 0008.
Just look at how they compare to the Barefoots – and wait until you hear them!
Posted in Uncategorized |After keeping our lips sealed for a while now, we are so excited to introduce our new mix studio, The Red Room London. In collaboration with Swiss mix engineer Philippe Weiss, the room is housed in the Orinoco complex in SE1 near Tower Bridge, which is also home to writing studios The Bridge and The Bunker, our large tracking studio The Pool, and Miloco HQ!
This studio is an audiophile’s dream and everything has gone into making this arguably one of the best mix rooms in London.
For all you techy types, get a load of this: the console is a 56 Channel SSL G+ Console with ultimation and total recall, which comes loaded with 24 E-Series EQs and 32 G-Series EQs. Monitoring is controlled by a Cranesong Avocet and there is a choice of Barefoot MicroMain 27’s, Adam S3A’s, Dynaudio BM15’s, Genelec 1031’s, Yamaha NS10’s and trusty Auratones. The big monitors are customised Munro M4’s tuned by acoustician Nick Whitaker.
The outboard has been carefully selected by Philippe and provides engineers with a great selection of hardware tools all connected via magami cabling. You’ll find many of the usual suspects here, from brands such as EMI Chandler, Urei, DBX, Focusrite, Neve, AMS, Manley, Pultec, GML and much sought after gear from the likes of EAR, EMT, AKG, Manley, Neumann and Langevin amongst others. The DAW is an Avid HDX rig with 48 outputs running Pro Tools 11 and a full complement of plug-ins with a UAD-2 card. Outputs are provided by Avid HD I/O’s or Apogee DA-16X convertors.
And if that’s not enough to impress you, over the years this space has provided three UK #1 albums: Lana Del Ray’s ‘Born To Die’, Keane’s ‘Strangeland’ and Plan B’s ‘The Defamation of Strickland Banks.’ Other albums to have been mixed here over the room’s history include Oasis’ ‘What’s The Morning Glory’ and ‘Be Here Now’, most of the Chemical Brothers albums, plus other successful albums by Wild Beasts, Foals, Villagers and Everything Everything.

Artist and DJ, Black Coffee, who celebrates his ten year anniversary in the music industry this year, has just had his new album, Pieces Of Me, go platinum in his native South Africa just six weeks after its release! Born Nkosthi Maphumulo, Black Coffee released his self-titled debut album in 2005, with Pieces Of Me being his sixth studio release. We are so pleased with the success of this album, which feels like a Miloco family group project of sorts, having being mixed by Philippe Weiss at The Red Room in Paris and mastered by Optimum Mastering in Bristol. Optimum also celebrated its ten year anniversary recently, so congratulations and celebrations are well-deserved all round!
No stranger to achieving mean feats, Black Coffee made history in 2010 when he set the record for the longest hours a DJ has spent continuously on the desk at a whopping 60 hours. His next hurdle? Planning to become the first South African artist to fill the 94,000 seat First National Bank Stadium in Johannesburg next year.
Congratulations to Black Coffee, Philippe Weiss and The Optimum Mastering team for their work on a brilliant record that is being so widely recognised.

A lot can happen in ten years. A decade ago we didn’t have the iPhone, YouTube had just been born, no one had ever heard of The Kardashians, but most importantly, Optimum Mastering was established.
The Bristol based mastering house was established in 2005 by Nick Harris and Redg Weeks, with respected engineer, Shawn Joseph. Since then Jack Adams and Tim Dennen have joined the team, bringing decades of experience in vinyl cutting, as well as the talented Rhys Crouch. Housed in an abandoned paint factory, Optimum is a beautifully designed space that offers comprehensive audio mastering, digital editing and mastering, vinyl cutting and restoration by only the most experienced engineers. It’s also the site of various workshops, led by Shawn, for students of local music colleges.
The ethos of the mastering house has always been to create and sustain a world-class listening environment that would attract clients from far and wide, drawn by the assurance of professional reference. Reputation and trust is crucial to the longevity of any music studio or mastering house, and it is no wonder that Optimum have this in spades. Over a decade of cutting grooves and tweaking frequencies for a huge range of artists from big to small, has established Optimum as a top tier mastering house that attracts clientele from all over the world.
We wish Optimum a very happy tenth birthday and are proud to have them as part of the Miloco family. With Optimum’s specialised and tailored approach to all projects commissioned, we look forward to another decade of working together.

‘Bleeds’, Roots Manuva’s sixth studio long-player, was largely recorded in The Bridge and mixed in The Engine Room at Miloco HQ Bermondsey, London.
The celebrated UK emcee, born Rodney Smith, began his foray into hip-hop in the mid 90’s, and twenty years later is still proving he’s head of the British rap pack. Taking the Roots Manuva sound fans have come to know and love a little further, this album incorporates a wide range of musical influences from dub to trap, lush strings to 60’s sounding soul. With a notable absence of his trademark cheekiness, ‘Bleeds’ carries more gravitas than previous Roots Manuva albums, possibly reflecting Smith’s maturing sensibilities (he is 43 now after all), while he discusses weighty topics such as education and Britain’s underclass.
‘Bleeds’ was written and recorded in the UK, featuring production credits from the likes of Four Tet, Major Lazer co-founder, Switch, Adrian Sherwood, and young up and coming British producer, Fred.
It takes a certain amount of inventiveness, and lot of skill, to be able to effectively fuse contemporary sounds and production with current social commentary, a feat that is only too easy for Smith. Now entering his third decade in the music industry, Roots Manuva has once again reminded us why he is the true pioneer of UK hip-hop.

Located near the small countryside town of Amarate, about 50km east of Porto, the studio is housed in an old hunter’s retreat that sits on a small mountain surrounded by vineyards. The amazing location provides breathtaking views, which both the control and recording rooms take advantage of. Given the remote location the studio provides artists the opportunity to record both inside and out, without disturbing any of the (distant) neighbours!
The studio contains a large control room on the ground floor, and a spacious live room upstairs that is home to a great selection of gear and backline, making it an ideal choice for bands on a budget wishing to write and record.
For accommodation there is a cottage that caters for up to 14 people available just a short distance from the studio. It can be rented for a reasonable price, and includes a swimming pool for cooling off after a long day’s recording in the warmer months.
Fridão Natura Recording is truly the perfect destination studio to write and record in an idyllic natural setting without any distractions.
