Five years on and the follow up to 2009’s Sunny Side Up, Caustic Love, is set to be Paolo Nutini’s career defining record.
Featuring tracks brimming with Nutini’s distinctive vocals and big band sounds, this album mixes things up a little, taking a new, refined direction. But don’t worry, the Paolo sound we all know and love is still alive and kicking.
Written by Paolo himself, Caustic Love was largely produced by Dani Castelar, recorded at Miloco’s The Square Studio in London and Toy Rooms in Brighton. The album was mixed by Craig Silvey at Toast Studios and is released today through Warner Music UK.

This month we have bolstered our offering of high end Italy recording studios by partnering with the great SAM Recording Studio in Tuscany, a luxury residential retreat in the idyllic 12th Century village of Lari near Pisa.
This residential recording studio is based in a traditional Tuscan building next to the imposing Castle of Lari in the centre of the village. With breathtaking views of the Apuan Alps, Mediterranean Sea and even the Leaning Tower of Pisa on a clear day, it is a truly special location to take a recording project to.
SAM Studio’s main control room was designed by the acclaimed French acoustician, Christian Malcurt, so the quality and accuracy of the room’s acoustics are second-to-none. It features a LN1 Raindirk Symphony console, a lot of vintage valve gear and modern equipment, and clients have the choice of a Pro Tools HD3 rig as well as a 2″ 16-track Soundcraft machine.
The main live room measures 8.6m x 6m x 4.5m and features a Steinway grand piano, and the space has a great variety of top-level acoustics.A slightly smaller recording room provides producers and engineers more acoustic options when tracking. Besides the beautifully-crafted acoustics at S.A.M., there are countless microphones and backline instruments to use, too.
Away from the studio itself, the accommodation at SAM is based in a stylish flat just 70 meters away. Guests will have all the joys of Tuscany, one of the most undoubtedly beautiful parts of Italy. Florence, Pisa, Siena, stunning architecture and countryside, great food and wine, and many outdoor activities such as hiking, spas, beaches and more.

The new single from The Horrors, I See You, was co-produced, mixed and part-recorded by Craig Silvey at Miloco’s Toast Studio. Some was also recorded at the band’s own London studio.
The track is the lead single from the band’s forthcoming record Luminous and is a whopping seven and a half synth-fuelled minutes long. A half sing-along track and half instrumental, it’s an intriguing glimpse into what’s to come.
Luminous is due out in May and is the follow up to The Horrors’ award-winning third album, Skying. To read the full review, click here.
