Florence and the Machine – ‘Ceremonials’. Mixed in The Garden by Craig Silvey.

Two years after their triumphant debut album broke out on an international level, Florence Welch and co. are back with their grandiose sophomore record, led on its way by single ‘What the Water Gave Me’. Not only did Florence and the Machine regroup once more with producer Paul Epworth for Ceremonials, they also returned to Miloco – having recorded 2009’s Lungs in The Pool, its follow-up was mixed by Craig Silvey in The Garden.

Released 31st October 2011 on Island Records.

For the latest instalment in our series of brilliant interviews we had the pleasure of half an hour with long-term client, friend and all-round maestro of pop production, Richard X, who has been working in many of Miloco’s studios for several years with his longstanding engineer, Miloco’s Pete Hofmann.

2011 has been a special year for Richard with Will Young’s fifth studio album, Echoes, which he produced at Miloco entering the charts at Number One this summer. We sat down to talk about the album’s production, Richard’s thoughts on the ever-changing recording industry and his pop career to date.

The idea is simple. Send us the parts to your tracks via the web to be transformed into heavyweight dubs of the highest standard. Online Dub Service can vary from project to project; sometimes all that is required is a basic Dub mix of what you already have, however if recommended and at an extra cost remixing and overdubs by top flight reggae musicians will also be provided.

End of Summer Number Ones: Ed Sheeran and Dappy.

It was great to see two Miloco-made records reach the top of the single and album charts over the last few weeks of summer. Congratulations to Ed Sheeran, Dappy and everyone else involved in their successes.

The N-Dubz star rolled out his solo career in style by smashing the charts with his Number 1 debut single, ‘No Regrets’.
Dappy has been in Angelic Studios over the summer with engineer Ross Dights working on his debut solo album, featuring ‘No Regrets’.

The UK’s most notable new balladeer of 2011, Ed Sheeran released his debut album on 12th September only to see it soar to the album to the top of the album charts off the back of the hugely successful pilot single, ‘The A Team’. We are delighted to announce the very special arrival of a Grotrian Steinweg Concert Grand Piano at Assault & Battery 2, in North West London. A&B2 is one of the UK’s very best recording studios with a comprehensive spec and selection of great recording rooms. Now with the addition of this beautiful Grand we can cater for all piano sessions.

Built in 1982 and measuring 2.2m x 1.5m (7.2” x 4.8”) the piano was owned and used extensively by legendary producer Alan Parsons (Beatles, Pink Floyd, Alan Parsons Project) while residing at Abbey Road Studios. It can be heard on many Alan Parsons Project albums such as ‘Eye In The Sky’ and ‘Gaudi’. Since then it has been played on many other great records by a host of recording stars.

With a brand new home at Assault & Battery 2 the piano can continue its legacy. It now means we can record classical, jazz or any other musical genre that requires a great piano.

Craig Silvey has been a force to be reckoned with in 2011. Since mixing The Arcade Fire’s Grammy-winning ‘The Suburbs’, he has been mostly locked away in Miloco’s Garden studio in Shoreditch working on a never-ending string of records to have made a big impression both commercially and critically, from the Mercury-nominated debut from Anna Calvi, to other critically acclaimed releases from the likes of Bombay Bicycle Club and The Horrors.

One of the UK’s most exciting new bands, Fixers mix psychedelia with classic dance grooves and pop loops to create some of the most refreshing and forward-thinking material you’ll hear over the next couple of years.

In the eight years since The Subways formed they have grown to become one of the most exciting and energised punk/pop acts in the UK. This September the trio are back for the first time in 3 years with their third album, Money and Celebrity.

Stephen Street produced the album in Miloco’s Sofa Sound, and mixed it in The Engine Room in 2010/11.
