Parker Mews recording for Nepal at La Chapelle

Posted on June 23, 2015 by Georgie Koch

As you may know, La Chapelle recently set up a recording session auction to help raise funds for the victims of the Nepal earthquake.

La Chapelle raised a staggering €2,800 by auctioning a three-day recording session, thanks to the highest bidding band Parker Mews!

The band have a bunch of songs ready for a new album and want to go for a fresh and mature sound.

They outbid everyone else because they love the idea of working on their new songs at La Chapelle while giving to charity.

Sentric Music session winners – Black Mountain Lights

Posted on June 22, 2015 by Georgie Koch

We have again teamed up with Sentric Music to offer their artists another chance of winning a free two-day recording session at one of our studios.

We are happy to announce that we chose Black Mountain Lights as the winners, following in the footsteps of previous winners Deafkid and Black Foxxes.

Sentric asked the band a few questions about their plans for the session. Check them out below.

Congratulations on winning the session! What made you apply?

We were actually looking at Miloco Studios quite recently, and then stumbled on the competition on the Sentric site. Thought it was worth a shot entering!

How do you usually prepare before a recording session?

Making sure everyone is as prepared as possible as time is money! The songs have to be as tight as possible and everyone has to be 100% confident with their parts. We listen to a lot of music and it always helps if we all bring along a reference track to make sure we are all on the same page with the sound we want from the recording.

What are you planning to record while in the studio?

We are already underway with the recording of the followup to our debut EP ‘Submarine’. So hopefully we can record a track for that new EP.

What do you want to achieve while in the recording studio?

As strange as it sounds we recorded the first EP in a cake factory, self-engineered and self-produced without the usual recording time constraints. This gave us the liberty to spend a lot of time creating the right sounds and ambience to fit the songs. I’d hope we can transfer that to the studio environment and achieve the right results within the time frame.

What are your plans for the next 12 months?

Looking forward to the release of our second EP followed by a tour.

How helpful are the royalties you earn from your works and performances?

Every little helps! being a DIY band we need to fund recording, CD production and touring costs. Any revenue we make from CD sales, royalties, gigs etc can quickly get swallowed up!

If you want to win similar offers, make sure you keep an eye out for Sentric’s emails and check the Opportunities section on your Sentric Music profile regularly.

La Chapelle are now running on Pro Tools HDX 10

Posted on June 19, 2015 by Georgie Koch

It has been seven months since La Chapelle installed a completely new Avid Pro Tools HDX system, but the studio have been so busy they haven’t had the time to tell you about it. La Chapelle are now running faster than ever on Pro Tools 10.3.9.

And if you should ever get bored of all their analogue outboard gear – something the studio highly doubt – they also recently added the Soundtoys suite to their plugins.

EastWest now on the Miloco website

Posted on June 17, 2015 by Georgie Koch

We’re pleased to be representing the amazing EastWest Studios, located in the heart of Hollywood. This recording complex is one of the best in the world.

Studio 1 features the 80-channel Neve 8078 console that was commissioned for Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ album. Studio 2 (a rock room with a drum booth) also offers a Neve console in the form of a 40-channel RCA Custom 8028, one of only two built with discrete Class-A electronics.

The most famous of EastWest’s rooms is Studio 3, which delivered the ‘Pet Sounds’ album by The Beach Boys in 1966 and comes with one of the six surviving Trident A-Range consoles (40 channels with Neve flying fader automation). Studio 5 comes with the largest control room in the building and features a 64-channel SSL 4000 G+ with Ultimation.

Miloco is now booking One Two Pass It, the third Parisian recording studio in our directory. Equipped with a Neve VR console and top-quality microphones, the recording and mixing studio is an extraordinary Paris space.

The live room was built with drums in mind, and its acoustics are adjustable through the use of some clever acoustic panels completed by the same designer as fellow French studio La Fabrique. The drumkits offered at One Two Pass It include a Ludwig Club Date, a Think Drums custom acrylic set and a Yamaha  Absolute Maple custom kit.

Valley Recording Company and Miloco team up in Los Angeles

Posted on June 12, 2015 by Georgie Koch

Miloco have added one new studio to our Los Angeles directory with Valley Recording Company (VRC) in Burbank. The partnership is the third studio for our Los Angeles directory.

VRC, ‘the last rock’n’roll studio in LA’, is a cool, vibey facility housing two completely different studios. The two resident producer/engineers Joe Cardamone and Greg Gordon focussed on live instruments while designing the complex in 2012, so VRC is definitely a place for bands to get a high-quality recording.

The edges of the Studio A control room are lined with outboard and guitars, but the central focus is an API 1608 console. Studio A offers the largest of VRC’s live rooms, an incredible drum room with 17-foot ceilings that bend down to create a unique sound all of its own.

The Studio B live room is where you set up a drumkit to get that tight 70s booth sound, while one of the central control room features is a Chandler Limited Mini Rack Mixer.

Joe Cardamone and Greg Gordon have years of experience making records. Joe is the singer/songwriter/band leader of rock group The Icarus Line and Greg has engineered and mixed records for Jet, Oasis, Marilyn Manson, Slayer and LL Cool J.

New Italian studio in Miloco directory

Posted on June 11, 2015 by Georgie Koch

With three studios and numerous booths, Milan’s Art&Music Recording is one of the best recording facilities in Italy, and our latest partner in the country. The construction and versatility of the complex is particularly impressive, with perfectly insulated rooms for each service (recording, editing, mixing, post-production, mastering).

Studio A (the largest of the three studios) and Studio B contain SSL Duality consoles, while the latter is able to mix in Dolby Surround 5.1, 6.1, 7.2, DTS stereo and stereo. Studio C, perfect for pre-production, has been equipped with the same acoustic properties as Studio A and Studio B, and the recording areas are able to accommodate up to 50 musicians simultaneously.
