Auris Ear Care

Posted on April 15, 2019 by Milo Miloco

As you can imagine ear care is quite important around here, and to keep everyone’s lug ‘oles in check we recently had a visit from Dr. Riaz Rampuri of Auris Ear Care.

Being a sound production company, we take our ear health very seriously and clean ears help us hear better and thus provide our clients with an uncompromising service. A fully mobile, CQC-regulated company Auris Ear Care are specialists in providing microsuction for London postcodes.

Dr. Riaz Rampuri spent a morning at our London headquarters checking and cleaning all Miloco staff ears. He also offered some free educational care advice as to how to maintain healthy ears – cotton buds are a big no no! The service was brilliant from start to finish, took no more than 15 mins per person, and we look forward to continuing our relationship with Auris Ear Care.

Thanks to Dr. Rampuri, you can ensure our team’s ears are the best in the business.

To find out more about the earwax removal service in London they provide, please call 07539 248 324.

Whisk away to Black Bay

Posted on April 7, 2019 by Georgie Koch

We have some pretty quiet and remote studios around the world, but nothing quite compares to the surroundings of our new partner studio Black Bay. Located off the north west coast of Scotland on the rugged islands of The Outer Hebrides you will find Black Bay, nestled in a sheltered harbour.

House in a converted crab factory, the studio was meticulously redesigned and renovated in 2016 to accommodate a large 100 square metre live room with a 5 metre pitched ceiling, spacious control room and dead room, together with comfortable living accommodation catering for eight people. It’s a place like no other – the ultimate escape from the rest of the world – somewhere to lose yourself completely in music whilst watching the ever changing ocean and tides.

The comfortable control room is centred around a Cadac J-Series console that sounds exceptionally warm and open – a real discovery for anyone who isn’t familiar with the Cadac sound. The space is big enough to use to record guitar/bass/keys when tied into the live rooms. Its acoustics are perfectly balanced and the PMC IB2s are big enough to give that ‘main’ monitor sound with bass right down to the bottom octave, but not so huge that they don’t translate.

The live room is large at 100 square meters, with oak floors, and pitched ceiling and home to a gorgeous Bechstein Grand Piano. It’s been designed to sound big and open when desired, but with a highly adaptable acoustic both through positioning in the varied space, and using purpose build movable treatment.

The Dead Room is also a big space with good sight lines to the live room and control room beyond. It has a very close but balanced sound thanks to the heavy acoustic treatment, and has ample space to record a full drum kit.

Between takes, clients enjoy access to coastal walks, some of the most stunning beaches in the world, boat trips, surfing, fishing, wildlife including whales and White Tailed Eagles, ancient standing stones, and in winter months Northern Lights and incredible star filled skies.

In most studios around the world your neighbours will be other musicians, businesses or busy city apartment blocks. At Black Bay it’s more fishing vessels, goats and woolly cows.

It’s hard to get more remote in Europe, but Black Bay has great transport links to the mainland UK with daily flights to/from Southend (via Liverpool Street, London), Glasgow, Edinburgh and Inverness and several ferry sailings each day from both Ullapool and the Isle of Skye. And if you’re feeling a bit adventurous Black Bay as has moorings for ocean-going vessels and even a helipad.

You’ll be assigned one of the engineers from our world-class roster, and when your mix is complete it will be uploaded to your account, and that’s it!

We’re really proud of our new Online Mixing service, we believe it offers a fantastic opportunity to have your tracks mixed by a world-class engineer without the time and expense of having to book the studios and engineers yourself.

Sleeper Sounds Video Tour

Posted on March 31, 2019 by Georgie Koch

Our friend and owner of Miloco partner studio Sleeper Sounds has been very busy of late. Last week he announced the details of his forthcoming album, a collection of piano covers of Robbie Williams songs, which as Williams’ lag-time songwriting partner, he helped create. And today we release an exclusive video tour series Guy shot in his west London studio.

In the series of 30 1-2 minute videos Guy takes us around Sleeper Sounds, explaining the various features of the space, and introducing us to his favourite pieces of gear. From the Mini Moog to rarer instruments like the Alesis Andromenda and a quirky little Calliope organ, watch as Guy demonstrates how each one works, and provides some top notch anecdotes!

Head to our YouTube channel for the full video series, or watch below.

Get reeled in by Tape Studio

Posted on March 30, 2019 by Georgie Koch

We’re proud to have a vast and unique array of studios in our Miloco Studio directory. We represent studios in converted churches, one in an old car factory, one that looks like a treehouse, and now we have our first studio housed in a nightclub. Enter, Tape Studio.

In the exclusive London borough of Mayfair, Tape is truly in the heart of London and provides a recording experience like no other thanks to its unique monitoring system, sleek aesthetic and the fact that it’s attached to one of the country’s most exclusive nightclubs. It’s the place where the likes of Bieber, Drake and Rihanna go to record when the mood strikes them during a night on the town.

The control room is based around the country’s only PMC QBI XBD main monitoring system. This ATL technology allows for exceptional low frequency extension with no colouration, fantastic tonal balance at all levels, higher SPLs without compression or fatigue.

The PMC team also worked closely with the designers and the Tape engineers to ensure that the room the QB1-XBDs were being put in could handle them. After all, there would be no point having such a high end system if the bass bounced around like a cricket ball in a lighthouse. All sorts of clever and invisible bass trap technology had been hidden in the ceilings and the walls of the studio. To view what other gear and toys Tape has on hand, view the full equipment list.

Given that the studio is nestled inside Tape Nightclub, a high-end an exclusive Mayfair nightclub, producers have been known to finish a mix in the studio and immediately play it to the packed club next door!

Tape is truly modern studio that’s perfect for producers and writers looking for a space that’s a cut above the rest.

View the full studio page for all it has to offer, and get in touch with our bookings team to enquire about sessions.

Snap up a session at our new partner studio, Snap!

Posted on March 20, 2019 by Georgie Koch

Let us introduce you to Snap!, our latest addition to the Miloco Studios global recording studios directory, and an award-winning vintage Neve recording studio based in North London.

Snap’s mission has always been to offer a place with the best classic gear, a good creative vibe and old school values at a price that is accessible and affordable.

Snap differs from many other studios, operating with a small tight-knit team who have been part of the studio for a long time. Since opening its doors 10 years ago, Snap have won an array of accolades, including Audio Pro International’s ‘Best New Studio’ and the MPG Award for ‘Studio Of The Year’. In that time they have also hosted some of the UK’s, and the world’s, most prominent musicians. Names like Liam Gallagher, FKA Twigs, Kaiser Chiefs, The Kooks, Stormzy, Kate Bush and more.

Comprised of a large live room and comfortable control room, Snap is centred around a vintage Neve 5316 analogue recording console from the early 70s, and an extensive mic collection with all the usual brand suspect, alongside plenty of top outboard and Pro Tools HDX.

For monitoring Snap relies on ATC SCM25A monitors, alongside Yamaha NS10s and Eastlake JM3Ts all fed by the incredibly transparent Grace Designs monitor controller, which also has excellent headphone amps.

Both our live room and control room are comfortable and spacious, providing the perfect space for full live band tracking, string ensemble recording or live acoustic performances.

The live room was designed to have a natural and balanced acoustic, and houses our gorgeous Bosendorfer 225 grand piano, plus Wurlitzer, a Hammond C3 and some nice vintage synths. Also, a few great drum kits like our 80’s Sonorlite and 1971 Ludwig Super Classic.

The team at Snap have taken a lot of care with the decor and lighting, as you can see in the photos, to create a space that is as conducive to working creatively and efficiently as possible.

So whether you’re looking to track a live band, acoustic performance or string ensemble, Snap is the perfect place to lay down your tracks with an experienced and dedicated team in a fun and vibey environment.

Posted on March 3, 2019 by Georgie Koch

Please help us welcome long-time member of the Miloco family, James Mellor, to the roster of engineers and producers represented by Miloco Studios.

James began his career as the in-house engineer at our partner studio, Liverpool’s The Motor Museumwhere he worked with artists such as Cast, Space, The Fall and Mike Scott while also producing local up-and-coming bands such as Life At The Arcade, Shy Billy and Jo Mary.
