Get lured into Decoy Studios

Posted on December 3, 2017 by Georgie Koch

Please help us welcome the amazing Decoy Studios to our directory this month. The creation of award-winning producer and engineer Cenzo Townshend, Decoy is a lovely secluded studio located in the picturesque English countryside, in Suffolk.

Decoy Studios is a dual facility with one half of the building home to a private and self-contained Recording Suite, complete with its own live room, control room and vocal booth, aka The Library, as well as a kitchen and living space. The right side of the building is where you will find Cenzo’s Mix Suite. As Cenzo’s own studio, the mix room is mostly occupied with his own projects, however all spaces are available for sessions subject to availability.

To create this incredible space, Cenzo enlisted the help of studio designer David Bell from White Mark to bring his studio dreams into fruition. The self-contained recording suite’s live room is at the building’s centre, benefitting from lots of natural light, lake views, amazing acoustics, and a great array of instruments and gear. The attached Control Room A is centred around an Audient ASP8024 Heritage Edition Console, and features 16 vintage Neve Mic amps, impeccable monitoring, and a host of outboard. The Library, named for its wall of books, is primarily a vocal booth but can also be used as an isolation room for guitars, drums or voiceovers.

The Mix Suite is centred around a 56 channel SSL-G console and more outboard than you can poke a stick at. Undoubtedly one of the best equipped mix rooms around, the studio also features monitoring from Yamaha, Amphion and Focal.

Located just an hour away from London, this is the perfect countryside retreat for artists wanting to escape to some peace and quiet while remaining in easy reach of the city. Alternatively there are a host of great accommodation options nearby for those wanting to insert themselves in this beautiful country setting for the duration of their session.

With a high-end construction, beautifully light spaces and boutique vibe, Decoy truly provides a unique recording experience that has catered for the likes of The Maccabees, George Ezra, Rat Boy, Ed Sheeran, Jamie T and many more.

Posted on November 25, 2017 by Georgie Koch

In case we didn’t shout about it enough already, last week we opened the doors of our SE1 studio complex HQ to the public for the premier Miloco Pro Audio Gear Showcase.

It was a great night with many new and familiar faces coming down to check out our new facelift and the new gear we had on offer. The event was a huge success, and we would like to thank all that attended – we truly believe we offered something very new in the trade/showcase format!

Special thanks must go to all of our partners on the event, including Sam Bath from SSL, Martin Warr from RME, Bryn Wildish at Audient, Simon Short from Focusrite, Gary Ash from Manley, Ian Down from PMC, Sam Simon Norris from Sony, Soyuz, Trinnov, API, Sontronics, Townsend Labs and Lauten. We were also very lucky to have Augspurger’s Managing Director Dave Malekpour attend all the way from California to launch the new Augspurger Treo 812 monitors in The Pool.

Highlights of the evening were the microphone and compressor shoot outs, each room was full to the rafters and full of rich conversation. It was our great pleasure to host the European launch of both the Sony C100 mic and Augspurger Treos along with the UK launch of the PMC Result 6.

Needless to say we’re really looking forward to our next event post Frankfurt Messe 2018!

The brainchild of founder and owner Grego Schweiger, the complex was created to specialise in analogue workflow and combines a carefully designed analogue environment and the most modern pro audio gear. NRG Recording Studios joins Miloco

Posted on October 11, 2017 by Georgie Koch

We are pleased to welcome prestigious west-coast studio NRG Recording Studios to the Miloco Studios directory. Located in North Hollywood, the studio sits in LA’s creative hub of the NoHo Arts District, one of LA’s hidden gems.

NRG is a three studio facility founded by legendary producer Jay Baumgardner, which has over 30 years of experience in the music industry and a long history of providing one of a kind recording experiences. Studios A and B are large tracking rooms, while Studio C is a plush mixing room and all are stocked with the best in digital and analogue equipment.

Studio A is the largest of the studios here at 5000 square feet, with a live tracking room with cement walls and birch wood paneling, 3 iso booths, a producers lounge (which doubles as a fourth iso booth), a Yamaha C-7 Concert grand piano, and Mytek Private Q individual headphone systems with 8 mono and 2 stereo channels. The attached control room, is centred around a custom built 64 input Neve 8068 console. Studio A also features a spacious private lounge with a full kitchen and dining area, widescreen HD DirecTV with surround sound, and a tournament pool table.

Each of the studios has its own distinct look and character, and Studio B has it in spades. The Moroccan themed room features a 30 x 40 foot live room with warm walnut wood floors and high ceilings. The large space also houses two isolation booths, two amp closets and, like Studio A, it’s own producers lounge. Also like Studio A, Studio B features a custom built Neve console in the control room, the 8078, which includes 24 channels of 1073 mic pres, and custom Dynaudio C4 main monitors.

NRG’s mix room is the luxurious Studio C. Designed in a ‘gothic revival’ style with velvet and carved oak, Studio C is designed purely for mixing and is centred around a custom Raven Black SSL 9000J. This spacious control room features custom Dynaudio C4 main monitors, and a private lounge/iso booth with vaulted ceilings and pointed arches, which provide another unique creative environment.

With character and quality, it comes at no surprise that over the years NRG Recording Studios has attracted some of the biggest names and most exciting projects to its halls. Artists such as Beck, Miley Cyrus, Linkin Park, 30 Seconds To Mars, BB King, Justin Bieber and many more have come to take full advantage of the space and its equipment.

Welcome Wisseloord Studios

Posted on October 1, 2017 by Georgie Koch

Miloco is pleased to welcome one of The Netherlands’ most renowned recording facilities, Wisseloord Studios, to our worldwide directory. Located in Hilversum,  just outside of Amsterdam, the legendary studio is comprised of five studios: three recording studios and two mastering rooms.

Built in 1978 and opened by Prince Claus, the studio was founded by electronics company Philips as a space for their PolyGram artists to record and has experienced a rich history ever since. Their client list boasts names such as Elton John, Def Leppard, Iron Maiden, Tina Turner, U2, Snoop Dogg and many more. From 2010-2012 the studio underwent a major refurbishment, transforming it into the modern state-of-the-art facility it is today.

Studio 1, aka the ‘Grande Dame’ is a 150m2 live room large enough for projects ranging from small orchestras, ensembles, bands, and video shoots. The space makes use of its two windows to catch the natural light, a rigging frame for lights & mics, and two isolation booths suitable for drums or vocals. The attached control room is centred around Avid’s (Euphonix) System 5 and a custom PMC speaker system that combines in-wall and ceiling-mounted monitors.

Studio 2 has preserved all the original acoustics and structure of the studio pre-renovation. It is smaller and more intimate than Studio 1, but still packs a punch! The flexible architecture features an open drum booth and movable walls which allow the room to be subdivided into three separate spaces, providing good acoustic isolation while allowing all-important eye contact between musicians. The attached control room features a custom API Vision mixing desk and custom PMC monitoring.

The third studio, Studio 4, was built by popular demand as a result of clients who wanted a modern production and writing studio that still had all the technical amenities, but more suitable for smaller projects. Designed for songwriting, tracking sessions and the like, the cosy control room features an API The Box desk and divers A-Class outboard. Studio 4 also features a great sounding live room of 25m2 (269 sq.ft.) where engineers and artists can record while using the impressive floating backline present in Wisseloord.

Complementing these three amazing and diverse recording studios are Mastering 1 and Mastering 2, two luxurious mastering rooms designed with excellent acoustics and equipped with an impressive array of analogue and digital gear.

The studio complex is also home to the Wisseloord House of Music, a publishing and production company investing in talent development, together with various national and international labels.

This is an incredible full-service recording facility that can take clients through from writing, through to recording, mixing and mastering. With an experienced and professional team on hand to cater to all types of projects, it is no wonder that Wisseloord has become THE recording destination in The Netherlands for artists from all over the world.

The Bunker moves to West London

Posted on September 25, 2017 by Georgie Koch

The Bunker was originally built in 2010 at Miloco’s SE1 HQ for indie producer Stephen Street (Blue, The Smiths, Morrissey), who wanted a modern and comfortable space to base himself and his equipment long-term.

After many years Stephen and The Bunker have relocated to West London, now known as The Bunker at 13. The new studio is a state-of-the-art writing, overdubbing and mixing in the box room near Shepherd’s Bush.

The space is now available for producers, engineers and artists to book when Stephen is away, and makes a great environment for writing, editing, vocal recording, overdubbing and mixing in the box. With bespoke acoustic design, a stylish interior, vocal booth, and custom built workstation, the studio benefits from an excellent array of equipment, including Audient Zen console, Focal Twin and KRK monitors. Clients can also make use of pieces of outboard, backline and misused to record many of Stephen’s legendary projects.

The finishing touches to the studio include a leather sofa, warm colour scheme and lighting, and many of Stephen’s personal touches such as photos captured throughout his career, not to mention an impressive collection of platinum disks to date. Also on site are kitchen and lounge facilities.

Elsewhere in the building, there is a kitchen/lounge area to relax in. There are also plenty of bars, restaurants, cafes, shops and other attractions in this fast-developing part of West London with Westfield shopping centre also close by and the new Soho House West coming nearby in 2018.
